It was a happy moment when I installed the 2.2 update and actually noticed a difference. The interface suddenly seemed smoother and the applications more stable. That subtle feeling of wellness lingered for a week or two, until my iPhone started dropping every other call I made.
Right now it feels like it’s getting worse. At first, I thought it may be some software issue since my phone has third-party apps and is jailbroken. No – my girlfriend is reporting the same problem and she hasn’t tampered with hers. A friend of mind suggested it may be coverage problem. Fair enough.
Still no. After a call is dropped, the carrier status sometimes says “Searching…” and won’t find what it’s looking for until a reboot solves the problem, however temporary. Are we the only two people with this problem? Is it a regional issue? This inevitably troubles people.
It must be especially troubling when you’re a huge Apple fan that promotes Apple software and gadgets at any chance you get. Let’s say you’re even running a website where every other post (guilty as charged) talks about how great they are. So how badly does this change a fanboys perspective?
It doesn’t, at least not in my case. While IT that doesn’t function always gets to me, frustrates me, the iPhone somehow doesn’t. When you’re sliding your fingers across the sharp display, navigating your way around a beautifully sculptured interface, it’s surprising how a few dropped calls doesn’t bother you that much after all.
Apple is about quality of experience and interface, and that always persists. Let’s how T-Mobile (The Netherlands) are the ones to blame though, so we fans don’t have to face any unnecessary awkwardness. ;)
