Why Macs Are Manly

This is one of the weirdest articles I’ve read in a while. Jim Lynch has written a response to the statement that all Mac users are gay. Yes, gay. Why anyone would say such an ignorant thing is a mystery to me, but apparently someone did. You can tell Jim is a great Apple fan because his answer is clear, concise and passionate.
“If you do a Google search for ‘famous mac users’ you’ll even find that there are even quite a few famous heterosexual men and women that use Macs. You know that Macs have across-the-board appeal when you have Al Gore, Rush Limbaugh, Mel Gibson, Valerie Bertinelli, Courtney Love, and Tom Cruise using them (oops…well I’m not really sure what sexual category Tom Cruise fits in but he’s famous and so I’ll list him anyway).
So where did this silly idea about Macs take root? Where did Goofball IT Drone get this from?
I think it has to do with the fact that Macs and other Apple products have traditionally looked much better and been far more reliable than their crappy Windows counterparts. And, for IT drones like Goofball IT Drone, this idea is very offensive and cannot be tolerated.
For some strange reason, IT drones cannot stand the idea of a computer looking good as well as performing well. It offends them on some incredibly primitive level that the great looking iMac or Macbook Pro might just be a far better, far more reliable daily computer than their trashy looking Windows box. All computers must be ugly and anything that deviates from that is well…deviant.”
Boom, there it is. Macs look sleek, stylish and clean. Some insanely conservative and ignorant people associate those qualities with the gay community. Why? Beats me, I live in the 21st century. I really don’t believe in that “unsure about their sexuality” bullshit, though. They’re just ignorant enough to not dust off their old values and definitions. These days, beauty isn’t necessarily feminine.
“Are Macs manly? Absolutely, here’s why:
- Macs are rock-hard reliable (truly a manly quality).
- Macs are stable and rarely, if ever, crash.
- Macs look great, unlike flabby and out of shape Windows boxes.
- Mac OS X has an amazingly intuitive interface.
- Macs can run Mac OS X, Linux and even wimpy little Windows (running Windows should only be done if absolutely necessary as it lowers a Macs inherent manliness).
- Macs have no viruses of consequence and no spyware.
- Mac OS X has one price and it’s a fair price, unlike Windows Vista’s nutty pricing schemes.”
Manly or not, these are seven good reasons to use a Mac. After this, the article somewhat derails into Windows trash talk and degradation. Now, I wouldn’t go as far as saying Windows machines are ugly Ford Pintos. But like Steve Jobs himself said, Microsoft doesn’t bring much culture into their products. It just doesn’t feel like they believe, you know. Microsoft is commercial; Apple is commercial culture.
I’m not saying Macs are manly or feminine, I’m just saying they aren’t gay. Whatever that means. Anyhow, it’s a nice article and I recommend it, though it shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Enjoy reading, my fellow fans.
